VALUES
The Rosin Box Project’s values support our vision. They shape our culture and our decision-making processes. Our values inform our strategies and align our board members, staff and volunteers, guiding us in how we serve our communities and what we want to contribute to the people of our contemporary world.
Serve and Center Community
Community well-being is at the heart of The Rosin Box Project. As a cultural institution and arts organization, The Rosin Box Project believes in its responsibility to deliver dance to San Diego and beyond. Through dance training and performances— in every way we can—we need to provide opportunities for all individuals to experience the transformative power of dance.
We represent, uplift, and invest in community through our work, who we collaborate with, and where we perform. We push our limits and challenge our decisions and the ideas that have been laid before us. We innovate and explore to foster the social changes we want to see.
Reflect and Nurture
For The Rosin Box Project to thrive, we need to share a narrative that reflects the diversity of our community, and nurture our art form by nurturing our artists. It is not enough to just perform for our audiences; we must involve them and participate with them. Individuals must see themselves within our offices, our studios and classrooms and on our stages.
We recognize the humanity of the artists, staff, collaborators, and audiences we engage and treat everyone with compassion and empathy. We lead by example to establish new paradigms that underscore artistic contributions. We invest in the people behind the work, and foster a safe space that supports the process with humility, transparency, and vulnerability.
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility
We actively seek and embrace a diversity of people, ideas, talents, and experiences. We work to recognize and dismantle inequities and systemic oppression within our organization and influence positive change externally. We keep our commitment to inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility at the forefront of our policies and practices.
Respect and Trust
We want our artists and audiences to thrive, take ownership of their place within “The Rosin Box”, and innovate in a brave and creative collective space. We listen attentively, speak candidly, and treat others respectfully. We commit to engendering trust through consistency of leading with action, engaging authentically, and maintaining transparency. We actively seek to establish enduring partnerships, with shared values.
Innovate and Inspire
We use dance to transcend boundaries and forge deeper connections. We are curious about fresh possibilities and creating in ways that challenge and inspire. We act innovatively, encourage risk, and embrace change with confidence and courage. We reimagine how dance is experienced, uniquely and creatively. We seek to set new artistic standards, and bring a commitment to lifelong learning to our work.
Accountability and Sustainability
We nurture an organizational culture that embraces adaptability, aims for excellence, and doesn’t dwell on mistakes or make excuses. We accept responsibility for our actions, and work to repair harm done.
We seek out new and better ways of doing things, act accountably and understand the importance of balancing artistic risk with strategic and commercial outcomes. We are responsible and creative stewards of our resources to sustain a growing and efficient organization.
